That is the proper starter for that flywheel because the starter for the 153 tooth flywheel (mounting holes straight across) could not possibly bolt on with the 168 tooth flywheel. It doesn't cause damage but makes a nasty noise. Given the life of the starter + the noise though, it might be fried by now.
