Removing the octopus will "de smog" your bike. The kit I bought was basicly two metal plates to block off the holes in the front of the cylinder head, and a few hoses. It made a huge difference in my 05 L.Both the Keihin and Mikuni carbs are great upgrades, but the Mikuni TM40 is almost half the price and works just as well. XR650L uncorked and opened up a bit more with a piston and carb is a great bike. Appreciate the feedback! I already put a cooler on this year, definitely made a difference.
